I’m a pharmacist by training — UBC Pharmacy, Class of 2016 — and I know exactly what it feels like to put yourself through school in B.C. The tuition, the books, the rent, the part-time shifts. I also know something most families don’t: every year, thousands of B.C. students leave free grant money unclaimed. Not loans — grants. Money the government has set aside for students that never needs to be paid back.
Why most families never claim it
It’s not because they don’t qualify. It’s because they never apply.
Some assume the paperwork is too complicated. Some assume it’s only for families in financial hardship. And many assume that because they’ve been responsible — because they’ve saved for their kids’ education — they won’t be eligible.
Here’s the truth: having savings doesn’t disqualify you. Grant eligibility is based on your family’s income, not the money you’ve put away. Families with RESPs, savings accounts, and steady jobs qualify every single year — they just have to apply. The system rewards the people who show up, and far too many never do.
That’s the gap goFundEd exists to close.
What I do
As your Grant Advisor, I sit down with you — student and parents together, if you like — and figure out exactly what you qualify for, every grant you didn’t know existed, and how to file so nothing gets missed or delayed. Then your goFundEd portal keeps it going: tracking your funding, reminding you before every semester’s deadline, and helping you plan your repayment, all the way to graduation.
I built this service because I kept watching smart, hardworking families pay full price for school while free money sat on the table. You’ve already done the hard part — raising a student who’s heading to post-secondary. Claiming what they’re entitled to should be the easy part.
